Lopud Island is located 6 nautical miles northwest of Dubrovnik, the island Kolocep and Sipan, who along with Daksa, Jakljan and several smaller islands called Elaphite Islands. Lopud name derives from the Greek word delafodia. The Italian name of the Isola di Mezzo, from Latin insula media, which means island in the middle. Lopud has an area only about 5 km, the highest hill is called Polačica and measure the height of 216 m. The island enjoys a Mediterranean climate with subtropical vegetation. Cypresses, palm trees, aloe, lemon trees, orange and olive trees, vines, carob and pomegranate mixed with aromatic and medicinal plants and herbs ..."

Lights Went Out Around the Globe for Earth Hour

Last weekend, lights all across the globe turned off to build awareness about energy use. European Space Agency astronaut André Kuipers watched and blogged from the International Space Station as each time zone hit 8:30 p.m. -- and tracked to see who on Earth turned out the lights. Earth Hour 2012 involved individuals, companies and landmarks to switch off lights in 147 countries and territories and over 5,000 cities.
